A ROAD rage incident near the Matina Crossing traffic light on Saturday night, July 6, escalated into a stabbing, leaving a taxi driver wounded.

The suspect, alias Ryan, a habal-habal driver, was later arrested in a hot-pursuit operation.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:55 p.m. involving the suspect and alias Ron, a 22-year-old taxi driver.

According to an initial investigation, both vehicles – Mot’s Golden Taxi (Body No. 5639, Plate No. LAM7815) and Delmar’s Honda XRM motorcycle (Plate No. L601LE) – were seen swerving and aggressively maneuvering while coming from Coastal Road, Talomo, indicating a traffic-related confrontation.

Upon reaching Matina Crossing, the suspect reportedly dismounted from his motorcycle, approached the taxi, opened the driver’s side door, and stabbed Ron on the upper abdomen with a scissor blade.

Ryan then abandoned his motorcycle and fled the scene.

A concerned citizen assisted the wounded victim, who was initially taken to Talomo Police Station before being transported to Davao Adventist Hospital for emergency treatment and later transferred to the Southern Philippines Medical Center.

At around 10:45 p.m. on the same day, personnel from Police Station 3 (PS3) Talomo, led by PSSg Joel Orencia, successfully apprehended Alias Ryan in a hot pursuit operation.

He was informed of his constitutional rights upon arrest and taken to PS3-Talomo for documentation and booking procedures.

Authorities recovered the weapon used in the crime – a scissor blade, with one half found at the crime scene and the other half in the suspect’s possession.

Ryan’s Honda XRM motorcycle is now in the custody of PS3, which will be used as evidence in the frustrated murder charge to be filed against him.
