- FPRRD scoffs at DOJ linking missing sabungeros to drug war: Sara
FORMER President Rodrigo Duterte dismissed Justice Secretary Crispin Remulla’s insinuations that the missing sabungeros (cockfighting gamblers) have links to the controversial war on drugs.
The statement was relayed by Vice President Sara Duterte, who visited her father at the International Criminal Court (ICC) detention facility in The Hague on Tuesday, July 15.
In a clip shared by the Office of the Vice President, she shared with reporters about briefing her father on the “missing sabungeros case” and the “attempt to link him” to the disappearances. “
“He said that it’s preposterous,” the vice president recounted their conversation.
Previously, Remulla announced that the Department of Justice is looking into a possible connection between the two cases, citing the alleged involvement of “rogue cops” from the previous administration.
The investigation into the missing sabungeros case, which involves dozens of individuals who vanished in 2022, is ongoing, with authorities recently searching Taal Lake in Batangas, where they were supposedly dumped.
Meanwhile, Duterte also revealed that the former president told her to stop visiting him, citing the financial burden it places on their family.
“He said again not to visit him because it’s taking a toll on the burden on my family’s finances. And then I told him that it’s okay, there’s no problem for me,” she said.
Their conversation also touched on a more personal and unusual topic, as the vice president shared that she and her father had a lengthy discussion about “pro-cremation and anti-cremation.”
