Man dead, barangay tanod hospitalized in hacking incident

A 57-YEAR-OLD driver was declared dead on arrival at a local hospital, while a village watchman is undergoing medical treatment following a hacking incident that occurred on July 30, in Bario Pogi, Barangay 34-D.

The victim was identified only as alias Ariel, 57, a married driver and resident of Bario Pogi. The suspect is alias Mike, 39, a married barangay tanod and a neighbor.

According to Loren, the victim’s 58-year-old sister, and a witness to the incident, the confrontation occurred at approximately 8:40 a.m. She and her brother were outside their house, Mike allegedly arrived and suddenly drew a bolo to hack the victim three times without warning.

Authorities reported that Ariel managed to parry the bolo and retaliated by stabbing the suspect.

Both individuals were immediately transported to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC). However, the victim did not make it.
