Electrical short circuit blamed for Matina Pangi business fire

A FIRE, believed to be caused by an electrical short circuit, damaged a business establishment in Matina Pangi on the afternoon of Sept. 3, 2025. 

According to the report of the Davao City police office, no casualties were reported.

Investigation shows, the Talomo police station received a report from the Central 911 base at approximately 2:14 p.m. regarding a fire at a residence near KM Motors Trading, along Purok Mahayahay, Matina Pangi Diversion Road. 

PSSg Ferd Pongase was immediately dispatched to the scene to verify the report. Initial investigation revealed that the fire started inside a stockroom. According to a witness named Eduardo Canoy, sparks were seen before the fire quickly spread. 

The owner of the establishment was identified as Alias  Irish, a 35-year-old businesswoman from Solariega Subdivision.

Responding units from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Central 911, and several volunteer groups, including Matina Crossing Fire Rescuers and Balusong Fire Volunteers, were able to bring the fire under control.

FO1 Arnel Brillantes, an investigator from the Talomo Fire Station, reported that the fire was successfully controlled by 3:05 PM. 

Meanwhile, the estimated damage to the property is around P50,000.
