AUTHORITIES are still conducting a hot pursuit operation after a couple was found dead in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur, on Wednesday in what police are treating as a double murder.
The victims were identified by the Sta. Cruz police as Esterlita Fajardo Mahinay, 60, and Avelino Pending Gabutero, 58. Both were farmers who lived in Purok Matatag, Barangay Astorga.
The couple was discovered by their child at around 6:30 a.m. on Aug. 20 when she came to their home to bring them food.
She found her mother, Esterlita, lying motionless on the floor, covered in blood.
Shortly after, a village watchman found Avelino’s bloodied body about 230 meters away from the couple’s home.
Police officials have yet to release a statement on a potential motive for the crime.
