THE 10TH Infantry (Agila) Division officially welcomed its newly designated assistant division commander, Brigadier General Alvin Luzon, and the new commander of the 1002nd Infantry “Bagwis” Brigade, Brigadier General Apollo Jun Fernandez Lamaton.

They are welcomed in a full military honors ceremony at headquarters 10ID, Camp General Manuel T. Yan Sr., Mawab, Davao de Oro, on July 21, 2025.

Luzon brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He previously served as the commander of the 101st Infantry (Three Red Arrows) Brigade. His distinguished career also includes key leadership positions such as commander of the 1st Military Intelligence Battalion and the 53rd Infantry Battalion under the 1st Infantry Division.

Notably, Luzon played a significant role in the pivotal Marawi Campaign in 2017, demonstrating his combat readiness and leadership in high-stakes operations.

Meanwhile, Lamaton assumes command of the 1002nd Infantry Brigade, a unit known for its critical role in anti-insurgency operations.

Prior to this appointment, he led the 39th Infantry (SMASH’EM) Battalion, also under the Agila Division, where he spearheaded decisive combat operations that resulted in the dismantling of major New People’s Army (NPA) guerrilla fronts. His tactical acumen and proven track record in counter-insurgency efforts are expected to further bolster the brigade’s effectiveness.

Major General Allan Hambala, commander of the 10ID, expressed his strong approval of the new designations, emphasizing their strategic importance in sustaining the Division’s gains and advancing the momentum of its ongoing campaigns.

“Their appointment strengthens our position in sustaining peace and pushing forward the Division’s core missions,” said Hambala, highlighting the anticipated positive impact of their leadership.

Luzon and Lamaton are proud members of the Philippine Military Academy (BANTAY LAYA) Class of 1994.
