THE EASTERN Mindanao Command (EastMinCom) officially ushered in the Yuletide season by joining the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in a simultaneous nationwide lighting of Christmas decorations on Dec. 1.

The ceremony, held at the EastMinCom headquarters, was spearheaded by commander Major General Adonis Ariel G. Orio, alongside deputy commander Commodore Dwight Steven M. Dulnoan, and chief of staff Colonel Jorry L. Baclor, PA, and witnessed by gathered officers, enlisted personnel, and civilian staff.

During his message, Orio emphasized that the ceremony serves as a powerful reminder of hope, unity, and resilience following a challenging year of operations.

He highlighted the dedication of the troops in their primary roles: “We have witnessed countless acts of heroism—our valiant soldiers who confronted insurgency to pave the way for lasting peace, development, and security; and our HADR [Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response] teams who faced falling debris, collapsed structures, relentless rains, and floods to safeguard and rescue affected communities.”

Orio stressed that despite hardships, the command remained steadfast through innovative strategies, which have “brought renewed hope to distressed communities.”

He concluded his message by encouraging personnel to reflect and rejoice, urging them to continue serving as “instruments of God’s light—resilient heroes who bring hope even in the darkest times.”

The symbolic lighting ceremony was followed by a communal boodle fight, celebrating the spirit of solidarity among the EastMinCom family.

The annual holiday event precedes the AFP’s 90th Founding Anniversary set for Dec. 19, 2025.
