A DRUG suspect was arrested on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 7, after police recovered suspected illegal drugs during a routine chokepoint inspection near the route of the upcoming “Parada sa Pasko”.

The arrest was made as the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) implemented intensified security protocols in preparation for large public gatherings this holiday season.

The suspect was identified only as alias Romel, 34, single, and self-employed, a resident of Purok Malipayon, Barangay Bagumbayan, Lupon, Davao Oriental.

According to the report, at around 3:10 p.m., personnel of Sta Ana Police Station were conducting a random checkpoint at Roxas Avenue corner Quezon Boulevard, Barangay 32-D, Davao City.

During the inspection, Pat Villegas observed the man acting suspiciously. A subsequent bag search revealed two heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing suspected shabu (methamphetamine), one glass tube tooter, and a disposable lighter.

Acting city director Col Mannan Muarip emphasized the critical role of strict chokepoints and bag inspections to safeguard major public events.

“The successful detection of even a small amount of contraband proves the effectiveness and necessity of proactive security measures,” he said.
