PASSENGERS arriving at the Francisco Bangoy International Airport can now expect a cooler and more comfortable experience following the installation of three high-capacity chillers at the terminal’s arrival area.

The Department of Transportation, in coordination with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, completed the installation to address persistent concerns regarding the airport’s temperature.

The upgrade was a direct result of an inspection conducted by Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez in October last year. During his visit, Lopez noted the uncomfortable heat inside the terminal caused by a breakdown in the previous cooling units.

He immediately ordered the procurement of additional equipment, emphasizing that the airport must possess backup units to prevent passenger discomfort during mechanical failures.

“There must always be standby chillers available so that if one breaks down, others can be used to ensure passengers do not suffer from the heat,” Lopez stated.

According to Lopez, the upgrade is a component of the ongoing expansion and rehabilitation of the passenger terminal building in line with President Marcos’ directive to upgrade airport facilities nationwide to ensure the comfort and convenience of the traveling public.

“These three new chillers are a significant help to the air conditioning capacity of Davao International Airport,” Lopez said. “We also aim to improve other airports in the country. Our focus remains on the President’s directive to ensure that passenger travel is orderly and comfortable.”
