THE DAVAO City Police Office (DCPO) resolved a shooting incident in Barangay Calinan within five hours, resulting in the surrender of the suspect and the recovery of the weapon used.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:36 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, at a glass supply store in Purok 23, Mandaguit, Barangay Calinan.

The victim, identified as Rodin, a 41-year-old glass installer, was shot at close range by a lone assailant.

Despite sustaining multiple gunshot wounds, Rodin managed to evade further injury and is currently in stable condition at Isaac T. Robillo Hospital.

Under the direction of city director Col Peter Bauzon Madria, personnel from Calinan Police Station (PS10) immediately launched a hot pursuit operation by using CCTV footage and witness accounts to identify the gunman.

By 9 p.m. that same day, a team led by Capt Dante Espejon, under the supervision of station commander Maj Robel Saavedra, identified the suspect as Arnel, 37, a resident of Barangay Sirib.

Police investigation revealed that the shooting was the result of a “long-standing personal dispute” over a right-of-way issue. The conflict had reportedly escalated over time, involving prior threats and harassment between the parties.

Facing a relentless police follow-up, the suspect surrendered to authorities at his residence, along with the Colt .45 caliber pistol with live ammunition, believed to be the crime weapon.

Officers also traced and recovered the motorcycle used in the attack, which the suspect had allegedly rented from an acquaintance.

A charge of frustrated murder and violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) is being prepared against the suspect.

Madria commended his personnel for the quick resolution the case.

“The immediate response and relentless follow-up operations of our personnel led to the swift identification and surrender of the suspect,” Madria stated. “This reflects the DCPO’s unwavering commitment to protect the public and act decisively against criminal elements.”
