THE 2ND Field Artillery Battalion (2FAB) of the Artillery Regiment conducted a live fire exercise with a 105mm Howitzer on Sept. 9-10, in Banaybanay, Davao Oriental.

The exercise, held in the areas of Barangay Causwagan and Barangay Maputi, demonstrated the unit’s combat readiness and precision fire support capabilities.

The two-day event focused on enhancing the field artillery gunnery proficiency of the 2FAB’s Alpha Battery.

The exercise was also designed to foster joint interoperability with other units, as personnel from the 66th and 67th Infantry Battalions, under the 701st Infantry Brigade, participated as Fire Observers.

This collaborative effort was crucial in reinforcing the units’ collective combat proficiency and operational effectiveness.

The live fire was overseen by BGen Allan Jose L. Taguba, commander of the 701st Infantry Brigade, and Ltc Harold P. Villaviza, commanding officer of the 2FAB, AR.

Among the guests were Davao Oriental Provincial Governor Nelson Dayanghirang Sr., local chief executives, community members, and students from nearby schools, who were given a firsthand look at the military’s capabilities.

The exercise concluded with a ceremonial awarding of the “King of Battle” Tab to several key guests, including Governor Dayanghirang, Ltc Nelson L. Dayanghirang, Ltc Louie Dondi P. Jabagat, and Ltc Edwin C. Pia, in recognition of their support and as honorary members of the Artillery Regiment.

This successful exercise underscores the Philippine Army’s ongoing commitment to maintaining a high state of readiness, improving joint force coordination, and strengthening its relationship with local communities in support of national defense.
