LTO suspends rider’s license over ‘no-hands stunt’ along Davao coastal road

THE LAND Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended the license of a motorcycle rider and put his vehicle on alarm after a video of his dangerous “no-hands” stunt while traveling along the Davao City Coastal Road went viral.

At the direction of LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus V. Lacanilao, the LTO XI issued a show cause order (SCO) against the rider and the motorcycle’s registered owner after the incident was recorded on the Facebook page Davao Idiot Driver’s 2.0.

In the viral video, the rider can be seen standing and not holding the handlebars while the motorcycle is speeding along a public road.

The LTO XI ordered the rider and the owner of the motorcycle to appear before the Regional Intelligence and Investigation Unit (RIIU) – Regional Law Enforcement Section in Davao City within five days to submit their sworn statements.

The rider faces charges of reckless driving and improper person to operate a motor vehicle, in addition to other possible violations that will be determined during the investigation.

The rider’s driver’s license has been placed under a 90-day preventive suspension, while the motorcycle has been formally placed on the corresponding alarm status.

“What this rider is doing is not a joke. When we are on public roads, this kind of dangerous driving cannot be done because just one wrong move can lead to an accident,” said Asec. Lacanilao. “You are not only putting yourself in danger but also other motorists. Those who are proven to be negligent will be held accountable.”

The LTO once again reminds all motorists in the region to maintain full control of their vehicles and obey traffic laws to avoid accidents.
