FRESH off a stellar run as the lone Philippine representative at the globally renowned Rainforest World Music Festival in Malaysia last June, Tagum City’s Drum Up World Music Project is packing their instruments for another massive stage.
The contemporary percussion ensemble has been invited to perform at the 2026 Miaoli Lubuw International Indigenous Music Festival in Miaoli City, Taiwan, this October 17 and 18.
This highly anticipated gathering unites indigenous voices and musical talents from across the globe, creating a space for artists to share authentic stories and forge deep connections through the universal language of music.
Drum Up started in casual community drum circles in 2019, before evolving into a seven-piece ensemble drawing core members from across the Davao Region.

The band creates original tracks that honor the indigenous instruments and rhythms of Mindanao, fearlessly fusing them with modern rock, metal, spoken word, and atmospheric chants.
“We are proud to bring once again our contemporary interpretation of Mindanao sounds, stories, experiences, and creative energy that have shaped us to an international audience,” said founder and artistic director Neil Cervantes at the recent PEP Talks media forum in SM Lanang.

Noting that the band frequently collaborates with other local musicians to build dynamic live sets, he added, “Our music explores themes of identity, community, social realities, movement, and human connection.”
Before bringing Mindanao pride to Taiwan, Drum Up is hosting community send-off shows in Tagum City and Davao to celebrate with local artists and supporters. Check the band’s official Facebook page for gig schedules and ways to back their international journey.
