THE POLICE Regional Office (PRO) XI sent off nearly 900 personnel on Wednesday, Sept. 9, to reinforce security for the upcoming first-ever Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Parliamentary Elections.
The deployment included 500 police officers trained to serve as members of the Special Electoral Board (SEB), 365 for peace-keeping duties, and four contingent officers—one commander and three staff members.
The security force set off from the PRO XI headquarters in Camp Quintin Merecido in Buhangin district on Wednesday.
PMAJ Catherine Dela Rey, PRO XI spokesperson, said the contingent will be strategically placed in key election areas of concern, specifically Maguindanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Cotabato City, and the Special Geographic Area in Cotabato province.
The deployment comes days ahead of the historic Sept. 14, 2026, parliamentary polls, where voters across the autonomous region will directly elect members of the 80-seat Bangsamoro Parliament for the first time since the passage of the Bangsamoro Organic Law.
Police officers serving on the Special Electoral Board will serve in areas where teachers or local election staff have recused themselves due to security risks or political affiliations.
Regional security forces across Mindanao have elevated alert levels to ensure neutral, safe, and credible voting conditions, particularly in hotspot areas with histories of intense political rivalry or threats from armed breakaway groups.
