A ROUTINE border check turned into a drug bust early Thursday morning, June 25, after security forces intercepted a traveler carrying over ₱67,000 worth of suspected illegal drugs.

The suspect, whose identity is being withheld pending the filing of formal charges, was caught at around 4 a.m. at the fixed security checkpoint in Barangay Licanan, Lasang.

Personnel from the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) Police Station 6 (Bunawan), the 2nd City Mobile Force Company (CMFC), and Task Force Davao carried out the joint operation.

According to the police report, inspectors discovered the prohibited substances in plain view during a standard vehicle inspection.

The seized contraband, believed to be Methamphetamine hydrochloride (locally known as shabu), weighed in at an estimated standard drug price value of ₱67,524.

The suspect faces charges for violating Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

DCPO director PCOL Peter Bauzon Madria commended the joint team, led by Bunawan Police Chief PMAJ Janus Lumbaya Macli-ing, for their vigilance during the graveyard shift.

“The DCPO remains committed to intensifying anti-illegal drug operations and urges the public to continue supporting law enforcement efforts in maintaining a safe and drug-free Davao City,” Madria said in a statement.
