  • DCPO vows no special treatment for gun-toting officer

AN ACTIVE police officer arrested by his fellow law enforcers is now facing criminal charges after allegedly pointing his firearm during a drunken rage in Barangay Cabantian, Buhangin District, earlier this week.

The suspect, a 41-year-old police officer assigned to the Regional Personnel Security Unit (RPSU) XI, was taken into custody following a gun-toting incident along Diamond Street in Diho Subdivision on Monday, June 22.

According to the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), local operatives initially responded to a distress call coursed through Central 911 regarding an armed and visibly intoxicated man.

Personnel from the Buhangin Police Station (PS5) tracked down the suspect and arrested him at around 1:45 a.m. He is currently undergoing inquest proceedings for criminal charges of grave threat.

DCPO chief PCOL Peter Bauzon Madria condemned the incident, emphasizing that the command adopts a strict zero-tolerance policy against lawlessness and misconduct within the police force.

“No member of the Philippine National Police is above the law. We do not tolerate inappropriate behavior from anyone in our organization,” Madria said in a statement. “Whatever it takes, erring personnel will not be exempted from criminal and administrative liability.”

In addition to the criminal complaint, the suspect is expected to face administrative sanctions and summary dismissal proceedings before the PNP Internal Affairs Service.

The DCPO has withheld the suspect’s identity pending the formal filing of the case in court.
