AN ESTIMATED 400 families were left homeless after a massive dawn fire ripped through a residential area in Barangay Ilang early Tuesday morning, June 23.

According to Senior Inspector Frances Mae Sendrijas, spokesperson for the Davao City Fire District, the blaze broke out around 2 am at Km. 17, Vista Mar, Muslim Village in Barangay Some.

The fire quickly escalated in the densely populated coastal community, prompting firefighters to raise the second alarm by 2:30 a.m.

As the flames continued to spread through the residential structures, a third alarm was declared at 3:12 a.m. to call in additional reinforcement.

Firefighters battled the blaze for over two hours before declaring it under control at 4:32 a.m. The fire was officially declared out at 6:02 am

Remarkably, despite the massive scale of the destruction affecting hundreds of households, authorities reported zero casualties.

Sendrijas confirmed that they have zero recorded injuries, fatalities, or missing persons as of this time.

The exact number of affected individuals is still being determined by local social welfare officials, who are currently on the ground to assess the needs of the displaced residents.

Meanwhile, the cause of the fire and the total estimated cost of property damage are still under active investigation by arson investigators.
