THE PHILIPPINE Army and the Malaysian Army opened a 12-day bilateral training exercise on Monday at the 10th Infantry Division headquarters in Camp General Manuel T. Yan Sr. here, aimed at bolstering territorial defense capabilities and regional security cooperation.
Dubbed Training Activity (TA) LAND MALPHI 24/2026, the bilateral engagement runs from June 1 to 12.
The exercise focuses on strengthening defense cooperation, enhancing interoperability, and sharpening battle staff planning capabilities between the two neighboring Southeast Asian ground forces.
Brigadier General Eufracio Joel Malig, assistant division commander of the 10th Infantry Division, presided over the opening ceremony, which featured a symbolic donning of caps and armbands to signify unity and operational readiness among the participating troops.
Prior to the ceremony, the Malaysian Army delegation paid a courtesy call on Major General Alvin V. Luzon, commander of the 10ID, to reinforce mutual commitments to regional defense partnerships.
Luzon emphasized that the joint training is crucial for developing adaptive military forces capable of handling evolving security challenges.
“TA LAND MALPHI demonstrates our shared commitment to strengthening defense cooperation, enhancing interoperability, and building mutual trust among partner armed forces,” Luzon said in a statement. “Through engagements such as this, we develop capable and adaptive forces that contribute to territorial defense, regional security, and lasting stability in our region.”
Over the course of the nearly two-week iteration, participating personnel will undergo cross-training maneuvers, tabletop exercises, and command post exercises.
The activities are designed to allow both armies to exchange best practices and operational experiences gained from their respective territorial defense and internal security operations.
Military officials noted that the annual exercise serves as a vital platform for fostering mutual understanding and ensuring both nations remain collectively prepared to address shared security challenges in the region.
