TO KICK off 2026, the year of the “Fire Horse”, Davao Horse Club ignites to become more active in horse sports in the Philippines and engage with tourism in Davao City.
On Jan. 31, 2026, an induction of new officers for this year was held at the Comedor Saloon, where they will carry out their respective roles and continue promoting their club in the city.
“We’ll try to make it more significant for the Davao Horse Club to be more inclined with the year of the Horse,” Davao Horse Club president Kobi Troy Tan said in an interview.
Tan shared that their sports club is family-friendly and they have activities that parents can enjoy with their children.
Founded in 1997, the club initiated events for kids in the past, such as a horse exhibition for the School for the Blind. They also routinely attend the Araw ng Dabaw parade in March, as well as showcase their horses in various meets across Davao Region.
Every year, Davao Horse Club hosts the “Davao Horse Show and Competition” to spotlight not just sports but to advocate for the welfare of these animals. For instance, competitors are discouraged from excessively whipping or mistreating their horses in accordance with the Animal Welfare Act.
Last Oct. 25, 2025, the 23rd edition of the annual competition was launched at the Davao City Stables and Horse Park, Matina Aplaya, which was participated in by 13 horse clubs from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
The event was sanctioned by the Philippine Horsemen Federation and partnered with the Department of Agriculture (DA) XI to feature a livestock and agri-fair.
