  • Call center agent’s bravery leads to arrest of ‘snatcher’

A 24-YEAR-OLD customer representative ignored the danger to herself and chased down an alleged thief who snatched her mobile phone through a jeepney window early Friday morning.

The suspect, identified only as alias Gerwin, 26, an unemployed resident of Padada, Davao del Sur, is currently in police custody, thanks to the victim’s courage.

According to Ecoland Police Station (PS15) report, the victim, alias Rica Mae, was on her way to work at the Alorica Building in Matina. At approximately 3:35 a.m., she boarded a public utility jeepney (PUJ) at the Bankerohan Public Market.

While the driver stopped in front of the Gazz Gasoline Station along Elpidio Quirino Avenue to pick up passengers, the suspect allegedly wedged her arm through the open window and grabbed the victim’s Tecno Android phone valued at P10,000.

Refusing to let the suspect escape with her phone, the victim jumped from the jeepney and chased him on foot while screaming for help.

The chase stretched several blocks, finally ending near the Tecarro College Foundation along Sandawa Road.

Concerned bystanders, alerted by the victim’s cries, assisted in cornering and apprehending the suspect.

A roving Mobile Patrol Unit, led by PCpl Wendy Lopez Diapana, arrived on the scene moments later to take the suspect into custody.
