Early morning blazes hit Bunawan and Toril; 9 families displaced

TWO SEPARATE fires broke out in the early hours of Tuesday, Jan. 20, leaving seven houses destroyed in Bunawan and one person injured in Toril District.

The first and larger blaze was reported at approximately 2:25 a.m. at Purok 17, Km 23, Bunawan District.

Firefighters from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) responded to the scene, when the incident quickly reached the first alarm.

While the team managed to bring the flames under control by 3:05 a.m., the fire was not officially declared out until 4:11 a.m.

According to the initial report, the fire destroyed seven structures and displaced 29 individuals.
Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported in the Bunawan incident.

Woman injured in Toril fire

Less than 30 minutes after the first call, another fire was reported involving one house at 2:48 a.m. at Purok 4, Barangay Eden in the Toril District.

A female resident also sustained burn injuries to both her hands and feet, and was immediately given medical attention.

The fire was quickly contained and declared out by 3:35 a.m.

The BFP has yet to release the estimated cost of damage for either incident. Investigations into the causes of both fires are currently ongoing.

Local authorities are coordinating with the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) to provide immediate relief and assistance to the displaced families.
