INVESTIGATORS are looking into the fire that ripped a residence and killed a mother and her two young children in Purok 8, Barangay Gumalang, Baguio District, at 2:27 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2025.

According to a report from the Davao City Police Office, the house, approximately 30 square meters in size, was totally gutted by the blaze and killed alias Daphne, 35; Cara, 6 (the daughter), Zee, 2 (the son).

Personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Calinan and the Central 911 Fire Auxiliary Unit immediately responded to the scene. They managed to control the blaze at 3:10 a.m. and completely put it out at 3:30 a.m.

FO3 Jason Iguana, BFP Calinan fire investigator, said they are looking at faulting wiring as the possible cause.

The estimated property damage was P45,000.

The remains of the victims were transported to Freedom Life Funeral in Calinan, Davao City.

Authorities noted that the immediate family opted against a Scene of the Crime Operative (SOCO) team processing the scene, as they belive no no foul play was involved in the incident.

Nonetheless, speculation spread on social media about the fire being a case of arson and murder-suicide.

However, Davao City Police Office spokesperson Capt. Hazel Tuazon said the Police Station 11 (Calinan) conducted an investigation to verify the information. She said that initially, investigators found no evidence or witness that the mother hurt her own kids.

In fact, she said, the neighbors heard screams for help from inside the house but nobody could do anything because the fire had already spread.
