THE 25TH Infantry Battalion has designated 1st Lieutenant Grace Angela Pocyoy as the commander of Charlie Company.
This marked the first time a female officer has assumed command of an infantry company within both the 25IB and the 10th Infantry Division.
Lieutenant Colonel Mark Serapion Lagud Jr., acting commanding officer of the 25IB, stated the designation reflects the unit’s absolute confidence in Pocyoy’s leadership.
He emphasized that the battalion continues to prioritize professionalism and discipline, ensuring leaders are chosen based on their ability to safeguard the community.
Welcoming the move, Major General Alvin Luzon, commander of the 10ID, described the appointment as a clear manifestation of a merit-based and inclusive military culture.
“Leadership in the Philippine Army is defined by competence, integrity, and the ability to lead soldiers in demanding conditions—not by gender,” Maj. Gen. Luzon said.
He added that empowering capable women leaders strengthens operational effectiveness and aligns with the AFP’s vision of a modern, people-centered force.
The 10ID reaffirmed its commitment to upholding equal opportunities in leadership development, staying consistent with national gender and development policies.
