ONE WOMAN was killed and four other individuals were injured when a Nissan Navara pickup truck flipped along the Davao-Bukidnon Road after smashing into a canal around 8:45 a.m. in Sitio Lower Kibalang, Marilog District, on Sunday, Nov. 9, 2025.

The fatality was only identified by the police as alias Maria, 40, a resident of Sunrise Village, Matina Aplaya, Davao City, who was reportedly hitchhiking in the vehicle.

Initial investigation by the Marilog Police Station revealed that the Nissan Navara pick-up, registered to an alias Feliz, was traveling from Calinan toward Arakan.

The driver, 23-year-old alias Shane, a resident of Barangay Santo Niño, Tugbok District, allowed three pedestrians—Maria, Aldrin (40), and John Rey  (35)—to ride on the truck’s bed after they flagged him down near Suawan Mana Farm. The vehicle was also carrying one front passenger, Junel, 24, a resident of Matina Crossing.

The hitchhikers were reportedly heading toward Epol Falls.

According to the report, the driver lost control of the wheel upon reaching the curve near Sitio Lower Kibalang. This caused the pickup to swerve into the opposite lane, hit an open canal on the left side of the road, and flip onto its left side.

As a result of the impact, all five individuals aboard sustained physical injuries.

Maria was rushed to Kibalang District Hospital by personnel from the Marilog Police Station, but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician at 9:45 a.m.

The two other hitchhikers, Aldrin and John Rey, were transported by responding Barangay Marilog Rescuers to the Southern Philippines Medical Center.

The driver, Shane, and the passenger, Junel, proceeded to San Pedro Hospital for a medical check-up.

The Nissan Navara was brought to the Marilog Police Station for safekeeping while the investigation is ongoing.
